Helping the town of Man to take charge of abandoned children

Founded in 1990 to provide injured and handicapped youths the opportunity to participate in humanitarian projects, Handicap Sans Frontières (HSF) has rapidly broadened the range of its action programs.
Initially, the association merely collected and transported orthopedic equipment in a number of developing countries. Then, realizing the vast local expectations, it gradually assumed more ambitious missions. Thus, in Man, a town of 150 000 inhabitants located in northwestern Côte d'Ivoire, 650 km from Abidjan, HSF has been assisting a home for abandoned children for several years.
In this city, the theater of violent combats during the last civil war, the "Pépinière" accommodates more than five hundred abandoned children, victims of the war or of aidS.Aged from two to sixteen, they are housed and fed at La Pépinière and receive school education or vocational training appropriate to their age.

A dispensary for the children and population of the neighborhood

In early 2009, the association decided to intensify its engagement for the children of Man. Within two years, it will finance the construction of a dispensary that is sufficiently equipped and provided with medicines to care not only for the children, but also for the surrounding population, about 2000 persons in all.
At the same time, it will also renovate the workshops and build an office for the teachers. The Veolia Foundation is backing these projects.
